Eco Practices

We strive to be environmentally conscious in how we choose our fabrics, how we approach production, and how we package orders.

FABRICS

Our preference, when possible, is to use natural and eco-friendly fabrics. All our printed fabrics are made in a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified facility and are Azo free. We also prioritize OEKO-Tex certified fabrics, which means that they have been tested for harmful substances. We use mainly Canadian wholesalers who import from Asia, India, and Spain.

Each collection features 2 to 3 styles in “upcycled fabrics.” These are reclaimed materials that are used as a raw resource, diverting it from landfill and incineration.

End of fabric rolls and other unusable materials are donated to Certex. In some cases, we also donate to institutions (such as sewing schools) and individuals who could use these leftover fabrics. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need anything between 0.5 m. and 5 m.

All fabrics scraps from sample cutting done at our Toronto studio are brought to a textile recycling program.

Animals are our beloved friends. In 2017, we made the decision to not use any animal byproducts. Our collections are now entirely animal-friendly. The only exceptions are the items created using “upcycled fabrics,” some of which contain silk or wool, from our inventory (no new purchases). We opted to reclaim (i.e. re-use) these fabrics rather than create additional waste materials.

Don’t forget to check out our “Compassion & Design” series.

PRODUCTION

Designed in Toronto, all garments are manufactured in small batch productions by a wonderful team of Montreal-based contractors that have been working with us for more than 15 years now.

Once pattern grading and markers have been prepared, operations really get moving with Les Services de coupe 3P, which carefully cuts the fabrics around pattern pieces.

Confection Rithy, the sewing company that we work with, then takes over and puts it all together, from sewing to pressing and finishing.

The collection then arrives to our studio in Toronto where each item is thoroughly inspected (i.e. quality controlled) before it is sent to you or your favourite boutiques.

PACKAGING

All orders are shipped using eco-friendly EcoEnclose packaging. All polymailers used are made from 100% recycled content, are biodegradable, and recyclable. All clear bags are made from 100% recycled content and are recyclable. Please, re-use if you can!
